Think outside my Stick and Chisel

I want to share this amazing video that made me truly realize I have to think outside the box, in other words outside my stick and chisel. There are different forms of art and these techniques are discovered evert day. For example Miwa Matreyek's glorious visions. Ted mentions "Miwa Matreyek create performances where real shapes and virtual images trade places, amid layers of animation, video and live bodies".

  1. Genesis,
Something I have noticed is that you have high hopes and plans for making something happen but haven't actually carried out any of those plans. I'm not accusing you of procrastinating, I'm just trying to help you realize that if you have done something you should actually let people know. I read some of your blogs and realized that you are planning to make a moving sculpture. I was thinking that maybe you should try to come into contact with one of the donors from the Gala to get them involved. I'm sure they would be intrigued to find out what you are planning to do.

  2. I agree with Robert, a full blown sculpture takes a lot of time, time that you might no longer have. By now at the very least you should have an actual design, schematics, and decided on the material of you sculpture.

Even if the sculpture is a small one, if you plan on making it dynamic, you have to solve the issue of balancing and keeping structure. Mobiles are very different form still sculptures. You are going to have to pick joints were the sculpture will be held loosely but it won't fall apart. You should look into the physics of these things if indeed you are planning on making one. Not only that, where you put this sculpture is also important if it is a mobile. You have to consider how you want the sculpture to move and then how do you get it to do this, will you use a motor, or wind? If you use wind then you have to consider currents. There is just a lot that goes into these things. Not to detract from your project, but at this point in time, I think a still sculpture might be best to do.
